PRSP GMM levels up

By Yvonne Policarpio

The Public Relations Society of the Philippines’ general membership meeting (GMM), now officially called the “PR Forum & Networking Session,” just leveled up with a handful of firsts.

PRSP opened its quarterly meetings this year to non-members, drawing a record-breaking turnout of over 90 attendees, 40 of which were guests (and hopefully soon-to-be members). The forum was held at the Hard Rock Café in Glorietta and proved to be a very engaging afternoon assembly.

Invited to speak was senior editor, newspaper columnist and author Julie Yap Daza who shared with the audience “What I like and don’t like about PR peeps.”  Daza brought the house down with her confidential anecdotes on prominent personalities. It was a very engaging and lively extemporaneous talk. Triccia Dacer of Dacer PR Legacy moderated the open forum between Daza and the audience.

PRSP director Charmaine Canillas gave a very inspiring presentation on “80 Years of Petron: PR Practices of an Anvil Hall of Famer.” Petron, the 1st PR Forum’s sponsor, was elevated to the Anvil Hall of Fame at the 48th Anvil Awards, after receiving seven Anvils for its Vision Petron campaign.

Yoly Crisanto and John Rojo, current and ex-officio presidents, respectively, presented their reports to the audience, underscoring more firsts in the coming year for PRSP. Jika Dalupan, internal vice-president read the report of Crisanto, who unfortunately, could not be present.

The tradition at PRSP GMMs continued where birthday celebrants were presented with their cakes. January celebrants around were Bernie Bagaman, APR of Richem, Inc., Gizelle Camua, APR of Pru Life UK, Jika Dalupan, APR of Pepsi Cola Products Phils., Inc., and Kim de Leon of AES Philippines. February celebrants present included Cherie Mijares of DDB Philippines, Lorie Bundoc of HBC, Inc., and Mandy Navasero of MNPhotoProStudio. Badette Cunanan of Manila Bulletin and NJ Torres of Marie France were among the March birthday celebrants.

In-between talks, presentations and birthday celebrations, the programs committee headed by external vice-president Barbie Atienza, provided fun activities. The major raffle prize, courtesy of Marie France, went to Mel Dominguez of Dominguez Marketing.
